QUEEN OF THE NIGHT in Nam Wa Po, Tai Po

No, it's not me. =)

Only this morning I took a photo of the Midnight Flower or Queen of the Night, and when we returned home around 10:45pm, the flower was in full bloom. What a beautiful sight!

TC's thoughts

Final Soliloquy of the Interior Paramour by Wallace Stevens
Light the first light of evening, as in a room
In which we rest and, for small reason, think
The world imagined is the ultimate good.
This is, therefore, the intensest rendezvous.
It is in that thought that we collect ourselves,
Out of all the indifferences, into one thing:
Within a single thing, a single shawl Wrapped tightly round us,
since we are poor, a warmth, A light, a power, the miraculous influence
Here, now, we forget each other and ourselves.
We feel the obscurity of an order, a whole,
A knowledge, that which arranged the rendezvous.
Within its vital boundary, the mind.
We say God and the imagination are one...
How high that highest candle lights the dark.
Out of this same light, out of the central mind,
We make a dwelling in the evening air,
In which being there together is enough.

THE ART OF LEARNING WITH HUMILITY AND RESPECT

First of all, everyone has their own opinion and I have mine.
My philosophy with my work and art, is always to 'help and care' for my students.

My main goal is to give my students the experience of the 'process' from the beginning to end:
1/ to help them learn how to be independent
2/ to be respectful of others and themselves
3/ having team spirit
4/ working hard
5/ listening well to instructions
6/ and most of all, gain confidence through helping others.

The students are not guaranteed to be on stage even if they have worked very hard or attended all rehearsals and lessons.

I do not purposely deprive my students of the opportunity to be on stage. In fact, I have always hoped all my students have the chance to BE on stage, to show what they have learned.

But there are times, when the students and/or their parents, might think they are ready and better than others, that I will observe and evaluate whether it is the right time or if the students have the right attitude to be a part of the show. Most of the time, the students are ready but somehow, there is always that ONE student or parent, who tries to make things a bit difficult. I always ask myself 'Is this a test? What am I to learn from this?'

I have always tried to teach and remind my students this:
The show is the star, not just one person. If we don't work together as one, then the show would not be successful.

But I guess, in today's society, the culture has changed in that sense. I have met my share of parents and students who think by being a student of a celebrity, they are the stars already, either by paying for just one course or even been on stage with me just once, that they are better than others. That is not the right attitude.
We have so much to learn! How can one think that with one good performance, it would define our success?

I cannot blame them, because they do not know my world of music nor the protocol of how to behave like a true artist.

I am happy to say most of my students and parents understand my philosophy. Yes, my standards and my expectations for my students are higher, and why not? How can my students be good enough if I don't expect more from them? Has anyone really succeeded without working hard?
Thank you to all my students, for making me work harder and that's why I can continue to do what I do best!

Nam Wa Po Garden Fall 2010

Fall Sunshine

My favorite - I call it the butterfly plant but it's actually the purple shamrock, the leaves folds when the sun goes down and it's so pretty and easy to care for. No direct sunlight, heat or extreme cold. Light violet flowers bloom
